Customs officers arrested a truck driver after finding 1.9 million illicit cigarettes in his vehicle at Man Kam To Control Point yesterday.

The haul was valued at $5.1 million with a duty potential of $3.6 million.

Officers inspected the truck, declared to be carrying assorted goods, and found the cigarettes inside 76 sofas.

The 47-year-old driver was arrested and the truck was impounded.

Customs today said it would continue to carry out stringent enforcement action against the smuggling of illicit cigarettes at boundary control points.
