Customs officers have arrested a man after seizing 2kg of cocaine worth $1.94 million at the airport.

The 45-year-old arrived from Benin via Nairobi, Kenya, yesterday.

Customs officers found a false compartment in his suitcase containing the drugs.

He will be charged with trafficking and will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistracy tomorrow.

A 35-year-old new Mainland mother was charged at the Sha Tin Magistrates' Courts with one count of making false representation to an immigration officer and sentenced to six months in prison today.

The defendant delivered her baby in November in the Mainland. However, she claimed to an immigration officer that she was not pregnant when she arrived in Hong Kong in June as a visitor.

She attempted to enter Hong Kong again in October but was refused permission and sent back to the Mainland. Investigations ensued.

In December, she intended to enter Hong Kong again and was arrested when she arrived. She pleaded guilty to the charge of making false representation to an immigration officer upon arrival in June and was sentenced to at the Sha Tin Magistrates' Courts today.

Under Hong Kong laws, any person who makes a false representation to an immigration officer commits an offence, and the maximum penalty is a $150,000 fine and 14 years in prison.

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen urges legislators, particularly the pan-democratic ones, to participate in the second round of public consultation on constitutional reform.

He made this statement today in response to the pan-democratic lawmakers’ plan to boycott the reform consultation.

It is the common goal for Hong Kong people to implement universal suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017, he said, calling on lawmakers to consider their views.

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen will visit Beijing tomorrow to attend the signing ceremony of an agreement with the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

The agreement is the Host Country Agreement & related Memorandum of Administrative Arrangements with the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

Under the agreement and the memorandum, dispute resolution proceedings administered by the Permanent Court of Arbitration can be conducted in Hong Kong on an ad hoc basis with the provision of facilities and support services required, without the need for the presence of a permanent physical Permanent Court of Arbitration.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Liu Zhenmin and Permanent Court of Arbitration Secretary General Hugo Hans Siblesz will also attend the ceremony.

Established in 1899 and located at The Hague in the Netherlands, the Permanent Court of Arbitration is an inter-governmental organisation to facilitate arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution between states.

Mr Yuen will also meet officials of the Department of Treaty & Law to discuss issues of mutual concern.

He will return to Hong Kong on January 5.
