Customs officers seized 65 motorcycles valued at about $4.2 million from three containers, and arrested two men, aged 46 and 29, last month, in the largest motorcycle smuggling case in a decade.

 

Officers found 20 unmanifested motorcycles and 111 tyres in a suspicious container declared as containing scrap metal, which arrived from Australia. Follow-up investigations led to the seizure of another 45 motorcycles and 82 tyres from two other containers arriving from Australia.

 

Under the Import & Export Ordinance, anyone found guilty of importing unmanifested cargoes can be fined up to $2 million and jailed up to seven years.

The Monetary Authority has issued an alert on a fraudulent website which purports to be the official website of Hang Seng Bank.

 

Its domain name is http://hsplbk.com/bank.hangseng.com/1/2/personal/private-banking/private-banking.html.

 

The bank clarified it has no connection with the site.
